SPRING PLANTING and GROUND BREAK – MAY 28th

Because of this spring’s unpredictable weather our plan is to wait for the final frost warning this year. On Saturday May 28th between 10am and 4pm we’ll open the shed and begin to overturn the soil, add new compost, plot out the plant’s orientation, and plant! The main focus will be on filling the community plots, the perimeter of the fence, and helping to open the garden in style. Please remember to bring a shovel, trowel or rake of your own because we only have a few of each to share. And wear your hat!

We’re hoping that everybody who can will bring as many seedlings or ‘starter’ vegetables to fill the community plots. Its best to start these at home on a sunny window from seed, or just buy them from a gardening store.

General Meeting for 2011 Season

Hello Community!

On Friday April 22 at 7pm we’re holding our spring meeting at the Bob Abate Rec centre, across the street on the south side of Bloor. We’ll discuss the potential to maximize our community food contribution through cooperation in maintenance, effective composting, beautification and of course lots of hard work. Please come down to Bob Abate Rec Centre to hear the important new plans, and reconnect with each other after a winter of hibernation.

CPCG Evolution: A Retrospective (part 1)

A few snapshots of our first year. We came a long way, baby……! With the hard work and dedication of our core group of volunteers and a very small amount of funds we turned a barren, gravel pitted area into a lush, green, vibrant, and productive space. There are 22 families and individuals tending their own plots, 3 community organizations planting as a group and a large communal area that has been designated for donation to a local food program at the Christie Ossington Neighbourhood Centre.

Our first year was full of great learning experiences. We had ups and downs, and are better prepared for the future.
